Hall Sensor or Magnetic?

Postby Giltgy on Thu Apr 22, 2021 8:40 am

Does anyone have an opinion about which of these is better?
Since Motec mentions the use of a hall sensor, I am assuming this
is the preferred sensor? Also, can anyone confirm that the simple
test using a power supply within the operating parameters will confirm
the function of a hall sensor? This envolves passing a magnetic object in
front of the sensor and observing the voltage "switching off".

Hi Guil,

What are you using it for? There are different requirements depending on what is being read.

I am interested in the crank position sensor application
for my rotary engine.

I always see magnetic (Variable Reluctance) on rotary racing applications.
