OBD and MoTeC ?

Postby PQatPIT on Wed Feb 04, 2009 9:48 am

Hello gentlemen!

Is it possible to install MoTeC Mx00 or newer models and have OBD port active? This is needed for yearly car inspection, nothing else.

If not possible with MoTeC is there some other decent priced solution I could suggest to a customer?

Thank you in advance!

MoTeC ECUs do not have an OBD-2 function. Our ECUs are intended primarily for motor sport use where OBD-2 diagnostics are not a requirement. The calibration of OBD-2 diagnostics in a factory ECU is vehicle specific and any modification you make to a car is likely to have an effect on it.

Could it work if you piggy'backed the Motec into the car, and left the OE ecu running in the background to provide an OBD output ?

Or would unplugging the coil/injectors etc from it make it throw errors ?

Well, although it is 2002 JDM car there is no OBD II to even start with. If there would be then I'd do it changing it once a year to OEM spec bofore inspection, and back after that.

Thank you everyone. Maybe the owner will keep it as a track toy for now.
