motec m400 and race technology

Postby Caroline on Fri Jul 14, 2017 11:38 pm

Hi guys,
Those days I try to use Dash4 pro to show the data of ECU. However, I can't get those data. I hope to use DL1 club to collect ECU data by using RS 232. How can I adjust motec m400 to make it send out RS 232? change Baud rate?
Thanks a lot. :D

If you go to Adjust>General Setup>Communications>RS232 Telemetry Setup you can then set the baud rate and the data stream that is sent out.

I am not sure which data stream is required for the DL1 logger, you could try the different ones to see which one works or speak to Race Technologies.

Thank you for your reply,adrian.
In fact, I tried to change telemetry baud rate, but it didn't work. I set "telemetry date set" to "custom data", but it also didn't work. Should I change it to "telemetry monitor"?

Do you have the Race Technology ECU Interface? -- I believe you will need this with your Dash4 -- as the only serial protocol it receives is the Race Technology protocol -- they use the ECU interface to bridge to either CAN or Serial communications. The Dash4Pro also has an optional direct CAN interface -- any chance your dash has that option? BTW it cost more than the external ECU interface listed below.

I would suggest you use the CAN interface instead of the serial if you are going to be acquiring a Race Technology ECU Interface. They cost the same

Pre-programmed interface:

Programmable CAN Interface:

Thank you for your reply, David. I bought the following products:
DL1CLUB advanced GPS data logger
DL1 CLUB 20Hz GPS upgrade
DL1 CLUB internal ECU serial interface
GoPro video import licence
DASH4PRO display unit with LCD screen
USB Programming Lead
In fact, I am not sure if I set the ECU properly.
Adjust > General Setup > Communications > RS232 Telemetry Setup
In this step I set baud rate to 19205 and data set to 4
Then Adjust > General Setup > Communications > Set Custom Data Sets
Add items and channels to custom set 1.
Do you have any suggestions? Thanks again. :D

According to the Race Technology Knowledgebase, you would want to use Telemetry Data Set 3, with the baud rate set to either 19201 or 19202 (not sure what 19205 would indicate, but that could be your problem).

I would verify that your of RS-232 ground and TX/RX correctly wired.

Sorry, I made a mistake in the last message. Baud Rate is 19201.
I have a 2nd Serial Port breakout cable. According to that picture. pin2 is RX and it connect with motec m400 B14 ,pin 3 is TX and it connect with motec B17.
Is that right?

The correct connection is:

Connect MoTeC B17 (TX) with the Race Technology RX (pin 2 on the DB-9)
Connect MoTeC B14 (Comms 0V) with Race Technology Gnd (pin 5 on the DB-9)
