Hi everyone. I have an original Honda Insight. Not running it as a hybrid, but with turbo and water/air intercooler. M400 plus ADL3 plus expander box. Bigger injectors, new Bosch coils, new airbox, etc. Control boost, EGR, VTEC, etc.
Lean cruise is the exciting bit - has taken a s**load of work to get it perfectly driveable.
Current approach is that lean cruise mode needs:
- Engine temp above 80 degrees C for 5 seconds, AND
- Gear equal or greater than 3*, AND
- Manifold pressure less than 120 kPa (ie less than about 3 psi boost) for 0.1 seconds, AND
- Engine RPM greater than 1100 rpm for 0.1 seconds, AND
- Engine oil temp greater than 60 degrees C, AND
- Throttle position greater than 5 percent for 0.6 seconds, AND
- Throttle position less than 85 per cent for 1.0 seconds.
* For fun I brought this down to 1 (ie in lean cruise in all gears when other conditions are met) and I actually got it to drive very well. Found it to be a good test - if it drove well in gears 1,2,3,4,5 then there would definitely be no problems in 4th and 5th.
Then lean cruise mode =
Pretty exciting numbers!
