Ignition Modules

Postby chicostatefsae on Wed Nov 19, 2014 11:24 am

Hi everyone,

My name is Sam, and I am the electronics guy on the Chico State FSAE team. This year we are putting a M800 on our 2007 GSXR600 and I am not sure if our coils have an ignitor built in or not. We are using the stock coils. Does anyone have any advice? I have read that an earlier year GSXR needed the ignition module, but I haven't seen anything about a 2007 and I am having trouble finding how to tell if we need it or not.

Thanks in advance,

Sam

A quick google image search reveals they only have two pins. That means they don't have built in ignitors. You will need either inductive ignition amps or a CDI unit. A bosch 211 4 channel module is a compact option and often a reasonable choice for a bike engine.

Thanks for the fast reply, and sorry for the stupid question. I read through the manual and some seminar notes and didn't notice anything about that.
