no spark

Postby andy_hstad on Mon May 19, 2014 8:06 am

Hey .I do not get any spark on my m4. I have constant speed from the crankshaft, no error codes and when I turn on the ignition, I get a spark on each cylinder but not when I run the starter motor, is connected as waste spark but four lights buddies via an ignition module according to schedule Ignition Module 4 Channel M37 # 41211th Anyone have an idea?

One more question how do I save my file on your computer so you can send it on when you do not have a floppy drive?

You can use the ignition test function under the diagnotic menu to drive the ignition without the engine running, this will at least tell you that the wiring from the ecu to ignitors and coils and the hardware is ok. If you get a spark when performing this test then its either a ecu setting or perhaps 12v to coils is lost during cranking.

Your config files are automatically saved to your harddrive. When using EMP software take a note of the file name of the config that you want - it is usually an eight digit number. Then open up windows explorer, navigate to C:/MOTEC/M4-v62 and you will find your config in this folder with a T62 extension, for instance 03050800.T62.

Okay then, I have driven ignition test and it did not work first. But when I removed the cable that came from pin 36 which controls the relay to the fuel pump and tändnigs relay and put it directly to ground that worked ignition test perfectly. I can not split the signal from the fuel pump to the ignition relay? Can not have it's power to the ignition coil all the time.

Then I wonder what I should set when I have a 60-2 wheel to ref trigger. Inserting 71 and then I get sync error and no sync what am I doing wrong? And i one get 200 rpm with no pluggs

ref sync mode 71
crank ref teeth 60
tooth ratio 50
crip 84
60-2 ref
hall distrubiator 1 teeth

If you haven't already done so you should also try ref/sync modes 72,73 & 74 which are basically just different combinations of rising/falling trigger edges.

Yes, mode 7* is correct for an engine that has 60-2 on crank and 1 tooth on cam/distributor.
You can also use mode 8* in batch fire mode without the cam/distributor sensor but I would suggest mode 7* is the best choice.

Yes, 60 is correct for number of teeth.

Do you have correct RPM showing on motec screen when cranking?
What type of engine is this?

Test them at various opening times, graph them up and draw a line through the points.
