M48 or MLS for LS1

Postby DaleH on Wed Nov 19, 2008 9:02 am

Hi Guys

i have a turbo charged LS1 that i need a ECU for. i can get a second hand M48 with ignition expander for a good price but it is no cheaper than a new MLS so i have a few questions

can the MLS use the ignition expander as i dont want to run waste spark
can the MLS run 16 low impedence injectors as a fuel change to methenol will happen one day
can the M48 run 16 low impedence injectors.

thanks
Dale

Hi Dale,
The MLS runs everything as groupfire anyway so it is going to still be waste spark. The M48 with ignition expander will be the only way to make it full sequential.

There is nothing wrong with waste spark many cars have been doing it for years with turbo's.

There is a current limit of 6amp per injector drive on the M48 so it depends on how low the resistance of the injecotr is.

Can the ignition expander be used with the mls to save some aux outputs for other stuf?

Yes it can but you can only use 4 coils (wasted spark).

If I understand you correctly, I can use all 8 ignition outputs on the expander, but it will fire two coils simultaneously?

Or will it only use 4 of the ignition outputs on the expander?

It will onnly use 4 outputs on the expander. You set the number of coils to 4 and wire it as wasted spark with each of the outputs triggering 2 coils.
