Hey guys,
about to install an M48 on a 520cc KTM engine...up until now we've been using an ECU-COIL-SPARK PLUG config but for space saving ske i`d like to switch to coil-on-plug - everything in one unit....are there certain models that Motec support and/or does not support? I'm guessing car COPs wouldn't work with a high RPM motorcycle engine...
any help is appreciated..
Emil

Hi!
We have a Motorcycle engine in a DAX,this runs with Motec and coil n plug, its a hayabusa engine. Then we used ignition modules to drive the coils. You will find the drawings in technical drawings, works fine for us.

In the past before COP's were very common on car engines, we ran things the other way around - that is we use motorcycle COP's for most of our car applications! Here are some tips:
1. Most 1999-2008 Suzuki and Honda Denso COPs are inductive - they require an igniter.
2. If you prefer CDI, Yamaha R6 at least up to 2005 were CDI.
I've used these coils on everything from 17,000 RPM 600's to large-displacement V8 powered prototypes with success.

If you are going HEI, mitsubishi makes a small igniter that would work good if you have limited space.
If you are interested ill post a picture and partnumbers

That module is a Bosch BIM 034 or a BIM 085, the connectors are different between the two.

Hi Mark,
Refering to the module above? Its a Mitsubishi and all 3 pictures are of the same igniters. The connector is very similar to the Nissan VQ coil connector, you could even use it if you cut they keyways of the igniter. This Igniter is found on the Mitsubishi Rodeo 3.0 V6 Pickup.

The BIM 034 has a Junior Timer (L-Jet) connector which is usually easier to get hold of.
Some of the Hondas have COP ignitions with built in igniters these days, was trying to find exact models but can't think of any.
