We probably have different definitions of touring and I live in a different region where law enforcement is less depressing while touring with a 7.

Perhaps, just saying that if you are actually travelling around and covering distance ( ie touring ), where will you get a ready supply of 100 octane fuel ?

Exactly, Almost nowhere, except in Germany and some places in France. Most of the time 98 is max, and now also with 5% methanol in some cases.
But as mentioned before, my engine is setup for 100, with a very small tolerance on the timing in regards to the knock ocuring. Since I also use the car on trackdays, I still prefer to keep this map.
The engine was setup in 1996, so at that time on the road 100 octane wasn't a problem.
That is why I would like to be able to retard the ignition a bit when I don't have access to 100, or 98.
Sometimes when I travel through the mountains I can only get 95 at the most.
My fueltank is limited to about 8 gallons, so refueling has to be done quite often.
