Supercharged Jag V8

Discussion and support for MoTeC's earlier generation ECUs

Supercharged Jag V8

Postby Fozwanger on Wed Oct 16, 2019 7:30 pm

I'm fitting a blown Jag V8 into my hotrod and I have an M48 on the shelf that I'm going to use.
I have a couple of questions, the first is that the jag motor is sequential fuel (which is fine, the ecu can drive them individually) but the motor is coil on plug and isn't wasted spark system.

Can I run the motor with the 2 off ignition outputs and effectively run as wasted spark? Will this be detrimental or will it make no difference apart from the life of the coils and plugs?
Or would iot be better to use and ignition expander and run all 8 coils separately as per OEM?

Also, has anyone else used a motec on a jag set up and do they have a base map they're prepared to share to get me running prior to check for leaks etc before taking it to a dyno?

TIA

Are you sure you have a M48?
A M48 has only 8 injector outputs so sequential fuel is not possible & has only two ignition outputs therefore you would need a IEX to run the 12 coils in waste spark mode.

It sounds like you have a M84!

I had jag & V12 in my mind (I used to have one)when I answered your questions< Indeed the injectors will be oK for the V8 but you will still need the IEX for 8 or 4 ignition outputs.

Thanks for the reply, yes it's an M48 with 8 injector outputs but just 2 ignition. Would running it as wasted spark be ok?

You need 4 ignition outputs to run waste spark on a V8 The M4-8 only has 2.

As previously stated, you need an IEX (ignition expander).

The IEX connected to the M4-8 will give you 8 ignition outputs so you don't need to run waste spark.
