ECU-EMP software version mismatch? - M4

Postby stownsen914 on Thu May 12, 2016 8:35 am

Hi all,

I am new to Motec products. I have an older racecar with a pre-3000 serial number M4 unit running (I believe) v6.06. After some challenges around getting a serial-USB adapter working to a new laptop, I now have an older laptop running Windows 95 for working with the M4. I've loaded EMP v6.20 onto the laptop. I saw note somewhere (maybe the M4 manual) that the ECU and EMP versions should be within the same dot release, i.e. in my case ECU is 6.06 so EMP should be 6.0x also. This would mean that it won't work with EMP v6.20 that I have on the laptop now. Is that true?

Thanks.

Hi Scott,

You need to run the same version EMP as the firmware on the M4, to update it you will need access to a SUU. You also need to use either a PCI cable or CIM to talk to the M4.

Thank you. Would v6.07 of EMP be OK with v6.06 of the firmware on the ECU?

Yes 6.07 should work fine. You will still need the PCI cable though.
