sequential inject and coil on plugs

Postby bbs16 on Sun Nov 23, 2008 10:04 am

After some advise if possible,
at the moment have 4cyl e30 m3 running with m4 but with batch fire.
what would like to do is go for sequential injection and use some bmw e87 cops. was going to do is use a 12 tooth trigger wheel instead of 36-1 (already on there) with hall effect sensor. then use magnetic sensor on cam housing. The cops have three conx so im presuming battery, earth, and trigger? will I need some external ignitors or will the Motec unit be able to fire these without? what exactly is the output from the ecu also ? is it 0volts switching to earth or 12v ? is it best to change the magnetic sensor on cam for hall effect as seems the magnetic one is harder to set up regards levels at speed etc?
Thanks Andy...

If you are already using the 36-1 trigger there is no need to change it to a 12 tooth trigger. Usually a hall sensor is used on the cam for sync because sometimes the voltage level of a mag sensor can be too low at cranking speeds, if you are ading a sensor I would use a Hall sensor for this.

For the coils you will probably need ignition modules as it is unlikely that the BMW coils will have nodules built in.

Thanks for reply RossB,

Im pretty sure the cops have ignitors built in from what ive heard. will do some more research on these. Could you possibly tell me what the ignition output from the ecu is.
Thanks.........

I havent seen BMW COP`s with built in ignitiors. The only Bosch COP`s that i know of with ignitors built in are the orange coloured COP`s found on the 40 valve Audi V8 and other derivatives.

Hi Martin,

Yes thanks for info, looks like will need a 4x channel module or 4x seperate ones then.
